I know this video segment of Aasif Mandvi in the town of Asbestos has made the rounds online, but it's not up on here, and I think it should be.
Russia, China and Brazil, the three largest miners and producers of asbestos, are also large consumers of the product. They are consistent with their lack of regard for the health of producers and consumers alike. Canada, on the other hand, faces a unique situation as a nation that mines and produces large amounts of asbestos, but cannot sell it domestically.
The hypocrisy is hard to defend, but Canada still somehow defends it, to the embarrassment of Canadians who dislike the idea of exporting asbestos to a country where modern safety regulations are not in place, virtually guaranteeing mesothelioma and other asbestos diseases for the Indians working with asbestos. The footage of Indian workers handling piles of asbestos is upsetting to say the least.
Canadian readers, what's your perspective?
