Keep Me In Your Heart

Another Warren Zevon post? If he hadn't written his final album (The Wind, 2003) about the challenges of mesothelioma and mortality, I wouldn't be posting twice on him in the same week, but facts being what they are, Warren Zevon has a VIP ticket to this humble blog, and will be featured here as often as he was on Letterman.

Joking aside, The Wind brought mesothelioma into the public consciousness in a way similar to the historic class action lawsuits of the 1980s, 90's, and new millenium. Beautiful songwriting and large settlements in favor of the plaintiffs have the power to affect change in the social climate, and to raise awareness of the injustices each addresses.

Judd Apatow featured this song in Funny People, a movie about a comic (played by Adam Sandler) who gets a terminal cancer diagnosis. Not for mesothelioma, as the character's work history consisted mainly of stand-up comedy as opposed to construction, military service, or any job that involved direct or even second-hand contact with asbestos.

But Adam Sandler's character felt a deep connection to Zevon's music, because it addressed the hope, fear, and challenges shared by people recently diagnosed with cancer, and those living with it as a daily reality.

Wherever you are in your relation to mesothelioma, "Keep Me In Your Heart" is for you. Keep hope alive, and stay current with mesothelioma news, medical and legal.
